Annatomix at CourtX
In May we worked with Annatomix on our new mural board which can be found along the all weather courts between Café Fresco and CourtX. The mural is the first in a series to showcase Street Art at CourtX.

About the mural
When designing my murals, I try to draw attention to native wildlife whenever the opportunity arises so, when CourtX suggested taking inspiration from the local butterfly house, my first thought was to investigate locally native butterflies that might not get much visibility. That’s how I came to learn more about the beautiful Marsh Fritillary and how it has been successfully reintroduced to Hampshire recently, after suffering a huge decline across the UK due to loss of habitat.
With the help of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and butterfly conservationists, their numbers are now on the rise in the area for the first time since they disappeared in the mid 90’s, and their restoration success has been recognised in the 2021 Sanctuary Awards!

Butterflies are often seen as a symbol of new life, or transition and transformation, and at a time when we are all facing great change, I think there is something we can learn from the balance of fragility and resilience these tiny insects live in.
Artist Statement
Previously a musician, sound engineer and occasional illustrator - Annatomix decided to make art her full-time endeavour in 2010.
Starting from a natural leaning toward geometry and traditional graphic design, she has spent the past decade developing her style and narrative, into one that is distinctly her own.
Her first solo show happened in London, in February 2015, and she has since gone forward to participate in a long list of group exhibitions and street art festivals, both in the UK and internationally. Annatomix’s works can now be found in a multitude of places – from stickers on lampposts, to multi-story murals, in private collections, galleries and museums.
She creates symbolic, modernist works - inspired by philosophy, geometry, history, nature and evolution - and has become particularly well known for her large-scale murals, featuring unmistakable polygonal animals and bold geometric patterns.
